"THAT'S WHAT 27 YEAR OLDS DO" EDITION

THE WORDS OF A BOY MAYOR TOTALLY IN DENIAL:
"Have I learned? Absolutely. Will I carefully consider decisions that I make? Absolutely. But at the end of the day, I'm still going to continue to be who I'm going to be, and go to concerts like I always have, and go to have a drink with my wife in bars. That's what 27-year-olds do and I shouldn't be any different."

Yo, yo, yo, MacYippers. Do you believe it? Opie actually insisted that Mark DeSantis, the GOP mayoral candidate, leave the room, before Opie would speak at the Executive Women's Council meeting at the Duquesne Club.
BTW, How did all those chicks get into the Duquesne Club?
Putting that aside, this is more childish behavior from little Opie.

The two main Pittsburgh mayoral candidates both addressed business and women's issues at a breakfast forum yesterday, but it was not a debate by any means.
The candidates had agreed in advance there would be no give-and-take between them. Mayor Luke Ravenstahl made sure of that: When the Democrat arrived at the Duquesne Club's Founders Room at 8 a.m., he had his hosts at the Executive Women's Council tell Republican opponent Mark DeSantis to leave the room. Only when the mayor's speech and question-and-answer period were over was the Republican challenger let back in.
MacYapper - Putting aside Opie's childishness for the moment, it is extremely disappointing that the woman in charge here knuckled under to the boy Mayor's demands. WTF? This town is full of nothing but wimps.
POST-GAZETTE.COM:
According to council president Karen Myers, when the forum was being planned Mr. Ravenstahl requested that he and Mr. DeSantis speak separately, a stipulation to which the council and the Republican agreed. Yesterday morning, when he saw Mr. DeSantis in the room before his remarks, the mayor asked that his opponent not be present.
The mayor had the right to ask for Mr. DeSantis' dismissal, said the forum's moderator, attorney Sara Davis Buss.
"The way it was presented to the mayor, it was not a debate, nor was there any expectation that he be in the room at the same time as Mr. DeSantis," she said.
MacYapper - Bullshit. You caved attorney Sara Davis Buss. He bitched and you collapsed like a house of cards. The expectation was that they wouldn't debate, not that they wouldn't be in the same room at the same time.
But the big, bad, brave women of the Executive Women's Council, whatever that is, cowered at the sight of the boy Mayor stomping his feet.
And you had the gall to ask an invited guest to leave for a while? You don't think that's embarrassing? You're not embarrassed to invite someone for breakfast and then ask them to step outside?
You're not going to get any respect from the chauvinistic child by meeting is absurd demands. You've reinforced his notion that he's the king and he can do anything he wants. Shame on you. You want respect for women in this town among the still overwhelmingly white male establishment? Don't suck up to them at moments like these.
Meantime, Opie, of course, still doesn't get it.

That's what 27-year-olds do and I shouldn't be any different."
MacYapper - You snivelling little spoiled brat. All 27 year olds are not the same. When you become mayor you actually give up your right to act like all other 27 year olds. All other 27 year olds aren't representing the city. All other 27 year olds aren't expected to not embarrass 300,000 people.
Do you think all othert 27 year olds have a detective/bodyguard/driver escorting them around town?
Where is ther evidence taht you will carefully consider the decisions you make. The evidence points to quite the contrary.
But let's be fair. You're not embarrassing us because you're 27. I've met intelligent, level headed people in their 20's. You're embarrassing us because you're you.
You don't have the maturity and the common sense to do this job without constantly stepping on your dick.
MAC-YAPPER I TOLD YOU SO MOMENT:
Incidentally, I take a lot of heat from many critics in this town. And I deserve it. And by that I mean, if you shoot your mouth off, expect people to shoot back.
Fine.
But I told yinz that his kid wasn't up tothe task from day freaking one. And you didn't listen. Oh no, give the kida a chance, you said. How can he do the job when people are always carping about him, you said.
It's good that we have a young person in there, maybe he'll keep the young people in town and we can change our old fogie image you said.
Well I'm not always right. But I was right on the money this time.
POST-GAZETTE.COM:
The mayor typically travels in a Chevrolet Impala assigned to his office, with a police detective as his driver and bodyguard.
The Yukon was one of four SUVs purchased using money from a Department of Homeland Security Buffer Zone Protection Program grant. The federal guidelines for the program forbid the use of the funding for "general-use vehicles."
"It could only be used for surveillance and intelligence gathering," said Mr. Malloy.
"The grant could be withdrawn, and the vehicle could be withdrawn" if it was being used for general purposes, said FOP attorney Bryan Campbell.
When her concerns were ignored within the bureau, Sgt. Wallace complained to Public Safety Director Michael Huss. Sources said she alleged that the vehicle was returned to the bureau on Aug. 21, after the concert, sullied with food and charcoal stains.
MacYapper - "Sullied with food and charcoal stains."
The freaking kid doesn't even have the decency to clean up the vehicle purchased with Homeland Security funds (do you feel safer now?).
He's not 27. He's 17. Charcoal stains? He loaded the tailgating hibatchi in the car?
Anyway, the PG is now fully conceding that we have a problem, Houston, when it comes to our little boy mayor.
I can remember not so long ago when they editorialized that even though Opie was somewhat immature, we have bigger fish to fry.
Now they see that we can't fry the big fish with a partying frat boy at the helm.

Big night: The mayor's use of a security SUV brings trouble
Thursday, October 04, 2007
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
He takes the big SUV so he can haul his friends to a concert. When he brings it back, it's a mess inside. When somebody tells on him, his friend tries to get the whistle-blower in trouble.
This might sound like your 17-year-old son, but, Pittsburgh, this is your 27-year-old mayor. It's bad enough that Luke Ravenstahl has no intention of behaving like a high-ranking municipal official. What's worse is the judgment displayed by his police chief, Nate Harper, a veteran officer who blew it when he tried to handle this situation.
MacYapper - He blew it big time by trying to discipline the female officer who blew the whistle on Opie. Funny how these guys keep cracking down on chicks who are cops. The PG remembers:
POST-GAZETTE.COM:
It's been only seven months since the free-speech rights of city officers were upheld in a case in which the city had to pay police Cmdr. Catherine McNeilly $85,000. Chief Harper had demoted her after she made allegations of misconduct against former city Operations Director Dennis Regan. You'd think the chief would remember such an expensive lesson.
MacYapper - No you wouldn't. If there's anything we've learned for certain with this kid, HE NEVER, EVER LEARNS HIS LESSON.
I hope this is sinking in.o We, the taxpayers, forked out 85-grand because Opie demoted the woman cop who was just trying to tell somebody that a well-connected good ol' boy with no qualifications whatsoever was about to become the boss of the cops.
POST-GAZETTE.COM:
You'd also think Chief Harper, who says he's the one who selected cars for use by the mayor, would know which police vehicles should have been off limits.
MacYapper - Nope. The Chief is grateful for his gig. "Whatever you need Mr. Mayor," seems to be his guiding philosophy.
POST-GAZETTE.COM:
As for the mayor, he just hasn't learned. Here's what he said yesterday: "I'm still going to continue to be who I'm going to be, and go to concerts like I always have, and go to have a drink with my wife in bars. That's what 27-year-olds do and I shouldn't be any different ... I'm not going to change my life to appease the media or appease somebody who wants me to be somebody I'm not."
MacYapper - You're not appeasing the media by acting like a grown-up you idiot.
There are different rules for, say, a 27 year old fighter pilot, than there are a 27 year old beach bum. Unless of course you're George W. Bush, an apt analogy I've beaten to death. But it's still accurate. Some people just don't get that by virtue of their position in life, the rules ARE different.
You don't have to be somebody you're not. You just can't be the same asshole you are and still be the mayor. Or at least, you have to try to conceal it. Which, I realize, for you, is impossible.
MAC-YIPPER FRED WEIGHS IN ON OPIE:
It occurs to me that Bush must have a follower, if not a fan, in Mayor
Ravenstahl. Don't believe me? Imitation is the sincerest form of
flattery....
Bush, on Rumsfeld, in April of 2006: "I hear the voices, and I read the
front page, and I know the speculation. But I'm the decider, and I decide
what is best."
Ravenstahl, on using City of Pittsburgh vehicles to go bar-hopping, October
3, 2007: "I understand I'm being held to a higher standard but at the same
time I'm going to continue to be who I am, because that's the only way I
know to be. Have I learned? Absolutely. Will I carefully consider
decisions that I make? Absolutely. But at the end of the day, I'm still
going to continue to be who I'm going to be, and go to concerts like I
always have, and go to have a drink with my wife in bars. That's what
27-year-olds do and I shouldn't be any different."
Great! Can somebody from the city send a car to drive me around this Friday
night?
HEINZ SCHOOL YAP-FEST WAS A BLAST
MacYapper - Thanks Jon Delano for inviting me to help edjumucate the fine young minds at the Heinz School on the CMU campus. I appeared on a panel with Bob Mayo of Channel 4 (Peter Frampton's ex keyboardist), Jeremy Boren of the Trib, and Maria Leaf of KDKA radio.
The students wanted to know if members of the media could sleep at night. I told them that once when I met Mayor Opie's Mom and wife, they seemed like nice people, and I felt a tinge of guilt. But then he screwed up again, and I got over it.

WE CONTINUE TO BURY THE DEAD JOHN MCINTIRE SHOW
johnny mac;
as a huge fan of your show, steigys, scott paulsen, etc.,i am hugely dissapointed in what happened monday oct 1...younze guyz all put out one hell of a product,in my opinion...i just wanted to give my support to yourself, john steigerwald, and scott paulsen, and ,of course, gabrielle...it seems that the radio gods in pittsburgh figure what we need here is another teeny bop pop station, instead of cutting edge radio that you and yours put out...i tried to listen to the other stations(rock, country, other talk radio),and it kinda sucked,to say the least...i never thought i'd say this ,but i just might have to go and get me a satellite radio or something, because pittsburgh radio sucks,in general, which is why the zone was the 'breath of fresh air', so to speak...
anyways,the latin to think about:
a long time ago,i heard this saying, and it always stuck with me:"illigitimi non carborundum".loosely translated,it means-don't let the bastards grind you down.
thanks for a great show, while it lasted,
good luck, god speed, and hope to hear
you on the airwaves again soon,
steve
MacYapper -
And finally, MacYipper Kent thought, for some reason, that if he sent me a bunch of pictures of naked biker chicks it would "cheer me up."

It didn't really work. But thanks Kent. Beats a sharp stick in the eye.
