MAC-YIPPER BRYCE
John,
I'm wondering if I'm the only person who cringed while Bush showed up to "console" the Virginia tech campus? I'm probably too fixated on his role in the ongoing catastrophe in Iraq but I wondered how the 10's or 100s of thousands of Iraqis and Afghanis feel about being "in the wrong place at the wrong time"? Or should we assume, as patriotic amerikans, that each person in the middle east who dies at the business end of American force, had it coming?
I'm sorry for the losses in Virginia, I had visited a friend in graduate school there in the 90's and was impressed by the campus and the people there.
I just don't trust Bush.

MacYapper - When I looked up at the boob tube shortly after 7pm last night and saw Charlie Gibson earnestly interviewing George and Laura Bush, I thought... "why?" Why, why, why? Because that's all the MSM knows.
Who cares what he thinks? He has no clue why it happened? I don't know that stricter gun control laws would have helped this, but he would never take a serious look at such an issue since he's the panderer in chief, except of course when it comes to all those dead kids in Iraq.
And with all due respect, his wife, while a seemingly nice person, is equally and likely more clueless. Sorry for the partisan bitterness. I'm just done with these Texans. They should go back to the ranch and barbacue. And get out of our lives.
Because they, well, at least he, has failed miserably.
This is no longer an argument. It is a simple statement of fact.
MacYipper Bob offers interesting trivia:
MAC-YIPPER BOB:
the land area we now know as Western Pennsylvania and Pittsburgh belonged to
Virginia until 1780
That is why General George Washington was here all the time and there was a
French and Indian War right here in Virginia!
From Wikipedia:
With the war still on-going, in 1780 Virginia and Pennsylvania came to an
agreement on their mutual borders, creating the state lines known today and
determining finally that the Pittsburgh region was Pennsylvanian. In 1783,
the Revolutionary War ended, which also brought at least a temporary
cessation of border warfare.

MacYapper - So I'm not sure if you think that's kinda cool because then we could have even been a bigger part of the VA TECH story, or you're just in an historical mood. But hey, interesting trivia is interesting trivia. Or not.
But I loves me some loyal listeners.
MAC-YIPPER PROFESSOR STEVE:
I found it interesting that the two headlines today P-G were 'Worse distaster
ever' and 'Why didn't the University respond differently'. I think the first
headline answers the second -- it had NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE!!. It reminds me
of all those who said we should have realized the hijackers on 9/11 were headed
for the twin towers before it happened.
I would ask all of those who are upset with the response by Va Tech to think
about all the domestic violence stories in the paper each week that do not
result in total shutdown of the city or in a mass execution. In fact, I did a
quick Google search and there was a recent domestic shooting on the Purdue
campus, in which the perpetrator found four days later trying to cross into
Canada. The standard MO, in fact the only MO before yesterday, was man shoots
girlfriend, man flees. Occasionally, it is: man shoots girlfriend and then shoots self. I would like to read
about one other: man shoots girlfriend, waits on campus two hours, then shoots
widely in a random classroom on other side of campus. If anyone studied that
scenario in police academy, then a mistake was made. But, I don't think anyone
studied that scenario in police academy, since it has NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE --
EVER!
Instead, we are left with a horrible, unpredictable incident beyond belief, that
in fact could have been prevented with different actions. However, that does
not mean that it was the result of mistakes by the campus police or that should
have done anything differently, despite how hard that is to hear after the fact.
I am wrecked with grief for the students and faculty at Va Tech, but I think it
is important to not look for scapegoat in a terrible, terrible situation.
Prof. Steve, Regent Square
p.s. By the way, you might want to give out the phone number a little more
often. It would help us listeners in the car.
MacYapper - Steverino, I have sympathy for those in charge in a very difficult, unpredictable situation. But not shutting the campus down when somebody shot and killed a couple of students and that somebody was still on the loose is a pretty damn boneheaded move.
