The Snarkery Starts Now
Yo, yo, yo MacYippers! It's another annoyingly snowy morning in the 'Burgh!
How do you think Mr. Peduto-Head is feeling this morning? Probably somewhat exhilarated, but bummed that he may have picked the wrong day to announce for Mayor.
I mean, who do you think would get more coverage, the new Stillers Coach Mike Tomlin, or the progressive mayoral candidate?
Having said that, from what I saw and read of the coverage, he didn't screw anything up.
The most salient quote I found was not from Mr. Peduto-Head himself, but from a campaign announcement attendee in the Trib:
TRIBUNE REVIEW:
Squirrel Hill resident Martha Raak, 71, said Peduto's experience and independence will win her vote. "Luke Ravenstahl is a nice young man, but he's part of the old machine," she said.
MacYapper - Ding ding ding ding ding ding ding! You nailed it Martha! Although I would dispute your first observation my own self, but that's beside the point.
Opie is part of the old machine, irony of ironies, considering he's barely out of diapers.
What makes it worse is, he's not running the old machine... the old machine is running him. 'Cause he's twelve years old and owes his soul to the company store, if you can handle the strained metaphor.
TRIBUNE REVIEW:
Ravenstahl signed a pledge from the League of Women Voters of Greater Pittsburgh to run a campaign free of dirty politics. Peduto plans to do the same, but not until the league formally issues its pledge.
MacYapper - What a load of hooey that is. First of all the League of Women Voters, God bless 'em, always have the most boring debates imaginable, under the banner of "responsible debate." Yawn. No one ever learns anything from those debates.
Secondly, the candidates will be nice until one gets behind and then that person will go negative. Have to. No choice in the matter.
Thirdly, there's always an underground campaign by everyone to discredit the other. As the Tipmeister famously opined, politics ain't beanbag MacYippers.
OK, moving along now from one dangerous fratboy running the government to another:
NOBODY LIKES INCURIOUS GEORGE
BLOOMBERG.COM
Jan. 22 (Bloomberg) -- President George W. Bush's approval ratings are now the lowest for any president the day before a State of the Union speech since Richard Nixon in 1974, according to a Washington Post-ABC News poll.
MacYapper - Dude, you know what pisses me off? Everybody hates him, but nobody cares. It's not like you see a lot of outrage over the outrageously unnecessary Iraq war.
It's more like "shrug, he sucks it was a mistake, but whatya gonna do?"
People are too self absorbed to care much that this dangerous dufus has screwed the pooch more than any other in history.
Can't wait to see what weird-ass demeanor he shows up with tonight on the boob tube, a nickname never more appropriate than for this evening.
ROONEYS GET ALL OUTRAGED OVER REPORTS THAT GRIMM WAS OFFERED GIG
PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE:
Dan Rooney, the team's chairman, denied a report that the Steelers offered Grimm the job on Saturday. He said that never happened, and he took umbrage with those who claimed Grimm accepted their offer, only to learn on Sunday that the Rooneys had changed their minds and reneged. Grimm did not return messages left on his cell phone.
TRIBUNE REVIEW:
"They were ... saying we were dishonest," Rooney said in an impromptu interview following Tomlin's news conference Monday. "Our integrity means more than anything to us. It means more than anything."
MacYapper - Well, Russ Grimm ain't talking, so we may never know what really went down.
Was Tomlin hired in part because Dan Rooney cares more about his legacy than the current team as the PG's Ron Cook and others have queried?
Who was the source who mislead the Trib into believing Grimm was the man?
And why won't Grimm at least straighten that question out?
But as everyone has pointed out, it won't matter if Tomlin wins.
If he loses, Katie bar the door, here come the Negro jokes.
'DVE this morning - Randy Bauman/Jim Krenn bit - Randy's character says "those 4-3 guys, I sure wouldn't want my daughter to marry one."
And then there's this from MacYipper Donald:
John, I speculate that the new coach will be called an
Uncle TOMlin as soon as he loses the first preseason game or pre season scrimmage.
I hope the brother is strong willed because of the haters who will gang up on him. Remember what they did to Kordell and Cowher?
MacYipper - Uncle TOMlin... Jesus.
